Advances in Surgery is a global surgical and medical knowledge-transferring, data-driven ecosystem, comprising a set of digital correlative platforms, with the purpose of facilitating access to high-quality content created by the world’s best specialists. Its goal is to accelerate the training/learning curve so as to close the gap between innovation and adoption, through the use of behavioral analysis, artificial intelligence, active listening, and adaptive learning management systems.
Behind The Knife is a comprehensive surgery education platform for healthcare providers at all stages of their training and career. Behind the Knife’s mission is to create innovative surgical education content that is accessible to all.
Behind the Knife was started in 2015 with the lofty goal of revolutionizing surgical education. The founders were frustrated by the lack of practical, engaging, and easy to access surgical education content. Almost overnight Behind the Knife grew from a simple concept discussed over beers by a ragtag group of residents and their mentor to a world-wide resource with tens of thousands of listeners in over 80 countries – and we have been working hard to keep up ever since! We are humbled by the community that has grown around Behind the Knife and grateful for contributions from countless surgical educators along the way.

Founded in 1994, PAPSA recognizes the unique expertise of African pediatric surgeons in addressing continent-specific diseases. Today, PAPSA facilitates regular collaboration among pediatric surgeons across Africa, with members serving as external examiners in regional college examinations. Partnerships with COSECSA and the South African College of Surgeons enhance training, while PAPSA’s recommended textbook, authored by African pediatric surgeons, is widely used for exam preparation in Africa, Asia, Russia, and various other countries. Open communication channels now foster teaching and research in pediatric surgery across the continent. Senior PAPSA members are also actively involved in building pediatric surgical capacities in Namibia, Burundi, and Madagascar.
Recognizing the importance of nurturing future leaders, PAPSA launched PAPSAGenesis in July 2023—a dedicated student division aimed at empowering the next generation of pediatric surgeons across Africa. This initiative emerged from PAPSA’s collaboration with the IASSS) which provided essential guidance in establishing a student-focused stream, inspiring commitment and enthusiasm within the student community.
